Colorado’s Ralphie V grand entrance: She doesn’t want to be held back
Monday, April 28th, 2008There’s nothing more fitting for a team than a mascot. It symbolizes the heart of the team. A central focal point for the team, school, fans, alumni to revolve around. And if you just happen to have the best, kick-ass (literally) mascot in the nation, then all the better. I don’t just say that because I wrote the Ralphie article at Wikipedia either.
Ralphie IV retired after last season after 7 years of service. She (Yah, Ralphie is a girl. She could mop your male mascot with the floor though without even breaking stride.) lives the glory retired life of a buffalo (not being your dinner for starters) performing crowd pleasing “fun” jobs and appearances. Ralphie V came out great for her first run (Yes, Ralphie V is also a girl. Your mascot is jealous). Her second run at “half-time” of the 2008 spring game is the stuff legends are made of: She nearly broke free of all her handlers and even trampled one (he’s okay). She made it clear:
Enough of this holding back. Let’s roll.
If there was ever a more pertinent statement for the state of Colorado football, it must have been before Byron White brought football on the map. We’re no longer satisfied with being a top-25 winning team, we’re going to be big time. We’re going for the National Championship. Every year. But we’re still Colorado: We won’t allow ourselves the Anything-but-a-NC-is-a-horrible-season attitude. We’ll still recognize that being the Big 12 North champs is really good. Anything more is a bonus. Much like the saying, “Shoot for the stars. If you fall short, you’ll likely find yourself further and better than if you hadn’t aimed so high.”
