2009 BCS game projections
Monday, June 16th, 2008The way-too-early projections have begun. Even before the way-too-early pre-season polls are out, the “real” BCS site is projecting BCS games for 2009. Here’s the quick view:
Rose Bowl presented by Citi
Jan. 1 / 5:10 p.m. ET Pasadena, Calif. ABC
*BCS vs. BCS (Big Ten Champion vs. Pac 10 Champion, if available)
Way-Too-Early Projection: Wisconsin vs. USC
Top 5 Others Considered: 1) Ohio State, 2) Penn State, 3) Oregon, 4) Arizona State, 5) California
√Solid choices. Nothing wrong with those picks, but not really going out on a limb here.
Allstate Sugar Bowl
Jan. 2 / 8:30 p.m. ET New Orleans, La. FOX
*BCS vs. BCS (SEC Champion, if available)
Way-Too-Early Projection: Georgia vs. Virginia Tech
Top 5 Others Considered: 1) Florida, 2) LSU, 3) Auburn, 4) Clemson, 5) West Virginia
√I like Georgia here (maybe higher?). I think Va. Tech is a reach for this.
Tostitos Fiesta Bowl
Jan. 5 / 8 p.m. Phoenix, Ariz. FOX
*BCS vs. BCS (Big 12 Champion, if available)
Way-Too-Early Projection: Missouri vs. West Virginia
Top 5 Others Considered: 1) Texas Tech, 2) Oklahoma, 3) Texas, 4) Wisconsin, 5) Florida
√Texas Tech? Probably not. Won’t be Texas. I think West Virginia is a stretch, especially after the coaching change.
FedEx Orange Bowl
Jan. 1 / 8 p.m. Miami Gardens, Fla. FOX
*BCS vs. BCS (ACC Champion, if available)
Way-Too-Early Projection: Clemson vs. Texas Tech
Top 5 Others Considered: 1) Virginia Tech, 2) Boston College, 3) West Virginia, 4) Florida, 5) Georgia
√Clemson is interesting. I’m okay with it (not sure if I like it). Texas Tech winning the South seems to be a stretch (and Missouri over Texas Tech is a good pick, but it will be Oklahoma, which would likely win).
FedEx BCS National Championship
Jan. 8 / 8 p.m. Miami Gardens, Fla. FOX
*BCS No. 1 vs. BCS No. 2
Way-Too-Early Projection: Ohio State vs. Florida
Top 5 Others Considered: 1) USC, 2) Georgia, 3) Oklahoma, 4) LSU, 5) West Virginia
√Ohio State vs. Florida? Will the voters really put Ohio State in the game to lose for a 3rd year? Unless they’re undefeated (which won’t happen) I doubt it. I certainly won’t. I don’t see a problem with Florida, but that will have to survive, which could be very tough having a target at QB. I also find it interesting to see Oklahoma listed here, but not as the Big 12 Champion above where Missouri is playing. Is it just hype them?

We in Clemson would love to meet up with Texas Tech in Miami. Not only would we finally get the BCS bowl that we’ve been longing for for so long, but it also gives us a rematch of the ‘02 Tangerine Bowl (now known as the Champs Sports Bowl) — a bowl that didn’t go too hot for us.
